Defoliation

Defoliation is a widespread loss of leaves on a tree or plant. Since leaves produce sugars and carbohydrates, defoliation will result in less food stores. Trees that receive less than adequate nutrition will be vulnerable and could even die. Defoliation can be a result of stress to the tree, such as cold weather and pest infestation.
